Asphaltic_plug_bridge_expansion_joint_1Site: New Cricketers Bridge, A322 Bagshot, Surrey. The A322 is a notorious cut through for traffic coming round the M25 to the M4 wanting to avoid the busy Heathrow section of the M25. New Cricketers Bridge over a railway line is on the A322 is less than 1 mile from Junction 3 of the M3.

Client: Ringway Infrastructure Services working as Main Contractor for Surrey County Council Structures.

Asphaltic_plug_bridge_expansion_joint_2The Problem: The Bridge expansion joints were found to be leaking but the 500mm asphaltic plug joints were so deep (up to 325mm) that curing times to get the heat out of the joint would have been at least 6 hours. This was not enough time to carry out the work during night time closures.

Solution: A weekend closure from Friday night to Sunday night. Enough crews to maximise the working window and get the job done.

“The Rhino team worked with us to find a practical solution to the time constraints we were under. Having allowed for contingencies to ensure the project would not over run, and with these not being required, the works were completed ahead of schedule. This allowed the road to be reopened early, reducing the impact to motorists on one of Surrey’s busiest non-trunk-route roads. They delivered on everything they promised.”
