Cretemaster

Traditional remedies to solve problems in concrete roads require the use of hard setting cementitous mortars. However, many of these problems have occurred initially because of movement in the road structure. This movement has not been accommodated by these stiff, cementitious materials.

Flexible concrete repair

Cretemaster is a flexible concrete repair material made from synthetic, not cementitious materials. It is designed specifically to provide a tough repair for concrete surfaces, combined with flexibility to accommodate movement.

A combination of graded aggregates and a synthetic concrete-compatible binder, seal the surface and bond to the surrounding concrete. The interlocking matrix of stone provides a tough, rut resistant repair.

The synthetic polymerised binder combines these performance characteristics with flexible performance, resulting in a repair that is able to cope with the usual movements of a road construction without cracking or debonding.

Suitability of treatments

  • Cracking
  • Joint Failure
  • Spalling
  • Patches and Potholes
  • Thin bond failures.

Spanning joints

The flexibility of the material is such that it can be used to span concrete expansion and contraction joints without the need to reform a traditional joint of bituminous sealant. Future expansion and contraction at the joint will be accommodated by the repair because of its flexible nature.

Butt joints

Butt joints between concrete and asphalt have particular maintenance issues, due to the differences in the thermal expansion between the two materials. Movement is greater at this transition point requiring a high performance material. Flexible Cretemaster at this point will repair and seal the joint.

Noisy open joints

Concrete road surfaces are often associated with high levels of noise; some of which is generated by tyres crossing open joints between the concrete slabs. Spalling and open joints increase noise generation.

Cretemaster repairs to transverse joints will leave the joint area flush thereby significantly reducing tyre noise.

Installation method

Materials are hot applied (at approximately 180⁰c) directly into a cleaned preformed recess (made by our wirtgen cold milling machines). The materials are allowed to cool after which they can be opened to traffic.

The Result

  • Flexible concrete repair
  • Waterproof seal
  • Skid resistance comparable to the surrounding concrete
  • Concrete coloured finish
  • Repaired arris edges
  • Repaired spalled areas
  • Repaired surface failures
