The pretty village of Stonham Aspal in Suffolk is awash with charming thatched cottages and traditional Suffolk pink walls. However, like many such locations, this village is cleaved in two by a busy road, the A1120.

When earmarked for resurfacing a couple of years ago, the local villagers pleaded with the County Highways Department not to blight them by reinstalling traditional Halifax Road Studs. Traffic running over the casings on the winding stretch through the village was creating excessive noise. The residents pleas were heard and stick-on plastic reflectors replaced the original ones. However, these were unable to withstand the traffic, especially the lorries trundling through this rural community.

The Eurimex LLHD road stud was chosen as an alternative to the traditional Halifax road stud because it has a low profile with just 10mm vertical deflection from existing levels and a sloped transition for tyres to drive quietly up and over the stud casing.

In addition, the high reflectivity levels the residents had become used to were retained because the Eurimex LLHD incorporates a Ray-O-Lite 2002 reflector measured as giving 218 mcd(millicandelas) after 12 months of road trials.

The B1022 divides the village of Great Totham in Essex. Two seperate sectios of road were installed with the Eurimex LLHD Roadstud.

The first site, a 30mph zone through the village with 70 studs at 6 metre centres were installed into a new asphalt surface with bi-directional reflectors.

The second site, a rural road leaving the village with both a 50mph and 60mph section. Here the road was a new surface dressing. 102 studs were installed at 18 metre centres again with bi-directional reflectors.

The work was carried out through the Essex term maintenance contract.
